Lorentz to Van de Sande Bakhuyzen, 1921

This letter from H.A. Lorentz to H.G. van de Sande Bakhuyzen was donated to our Institute by N.C. de Groot van Embden, whose wife was a granddaughter of the latter. The letter, dated 27 August 1921, is a critical discussion of an article by Leopold Courvoisier on the ether (presumably Zur Frage der Mitführung des Lichtäthers durch die Erde). At the end Lorentz mentions his upcoming journey to the United States. If you can read Dutch you will appreciate Lorentz' elegant style ("Houd mij ten goede dat ik zoo uitvoerig ben geworden en zoo aan 't redeneeren ben geraakt; het ging onwillekeurig.").
